they finally make it to aruba for their honeymoon some two years after they originally say i doit's not because they have to get through the after or the forever to find the happilyit's not because they need time or adjustment or a recalibration of tomorrow(though they admittedly *do* need those things;they need the difficult conversations across kitchen counters and the miracle of wedding rings and fortitude made of unbreakable platinumthey need the daily battles and the nightly triumph; they need the good and the bad and the uglyfor they are all steps toward something bigger: each other)instead they wait because they want william to be part of itthey wouldn't be them -- a family; a redefined reprieve; a sunrise beginning; wishes no longer whispered but embodied -- without himthey also wait because their promises come down to so much more than an impromptu semi-hijacked weddingin truth -- the one thing they listen to above all else -- they'd betrothed themselves to each other long before thatthey'd pledged with words so much bigger than 'will you marry me?'; 'yes you can trust me' and 'if you're not leaving i'm not leaving''you will always be my girl felicity'; 'you look like a hero'and they renew all those vows day in and day out; a kiss to the top of a blonde bedhead and an adorably inept wink over a coffee cupso it doesn't matter how or when or where they honeymoon because it's always been about their partnershipwilliam meets them at the airport from boston and felicity drops her laptop and purse to run across the small arrivals lounge to himshe all but throws herself at her son -- because for all the issues oliver and felicity have had to work throughwilliam's status as beloved and accepted and *home* has never faltered -- and nor will it everand it's okay that he misses his mom and her hugs and her smell and her voicebecause with felicity he's got bare feet in the sand as they talk about school and boston as his dad watches on with love and pridesome might say they've had far too many starts and stops over the years -- that they deserve to rest nowbut they know that only the best things in life are fought for; are shared with and among loveit'll never be paradise; instead it'll be better: earned and appreciatedtagging in 2019otp: it feels really good having you inside me
